Healthy Lunches

Hi, This is RJ. The first week of school for me is going great. I have a good teacher and am back with my friends. As we go into the new school year we should keep in mind about being healthy.

One great way to be healthy is with our lunches.

Instead of buying school lunches all the time, you should look at trying to pack as well. How do you pack a healthy lunch? Here are a few ideas.

  1. Pack a salad with a turkey or chicken sandwich. Make sure to put your salad in a thermos.
  2. Make sure to pack a vegetable or fruit in your lunch.
  3. Different kinds of cheese make a great snack to. My favorite is Gouda.
  4. Pack water or a low sugar lemonade in a thermos instead of soda pop.
  5. Healthy hot food for your thermos could be things like chicken noodle soup, low fat spaghetti, veggie lasagna, or a low fat baked mac & cheese.

We do like to buy our lunches, so to stay healthy get a schedule and plan out what days to pack and what days to eat at schools. Speaking of that, I need to plan out mine. ;)

Look for lunches like sandwich wraps, salads, whole wheat meals, and reduced fat items. Of course we have our favorites, and you can get your favorites once in a while. Like Pizza day or General Tso's Chicken.

Another thing to do is plan a healthy snack for your snack time. A piece of fruit is great for a snack, also granola bars or real fruit snacks. Just make sure to look at the label with your parents to see which are best for what you like.

What are your healthy lunch ideas? Comment and let me know.

Also, don't forget to email your answers in for the 9/11 project.

  1. Hi RJ - I am a principal at a high school in central Ohio and love what you are doing. Keep up the good work. In the future do you want to correspond with some of our students?
